Yes another comic about making comics.
I wanted to write a comic the talks about voice in our head that questions how our creations will be interpreted by others. To be honest I have this problem with this and always have. I noticed it coming up while trying to write a comic for Animatic Press I decided to make the comic about that. Questioning how people might react to something you create is almost always a bad idea unless you are making something directly for someone in which case I think this is something to keep in mind
But in most cases that voice that comes in and questions how the general audience will react to your comic or creation should not be your criteria for editing your comic. You should do what YOU do and what YOU enjoy doing and use the enjoyment you feel while creating as you gauge to tell you if you are on the right track or not. Your enjoyment will come out in what you create and people will respond to it. And chances are if you enjoy something or think something is funny a few others will to. In the comic I made the artist basically gives up chooses to not make anything rather than face the fear of making something that might make him look bad. He would rather do nothing that risk of hurting the vision of himself that his ego has created in his head
Art wise I wanted to keep is really simple and graphic with a mid 20th century appeal. I enjoy making wild and super energized drawings but I also love cartoon and comics that give simple shapes emotions with very little line work. The strange this is; I do not always enjoy making that type of work as much as the exaggerated work but the end result sometimes appeals to me more. Not sure why that is yet.
THIS WEEK – I will be in Michigan at KIDS READ COMICS. An awesome event put on by a great group of people and attended by a lot of extremely talented artist and storytellers. Please check out their website and see the amazing line up of events they have planned for this coming Saturday & Sunday (18th & 19th). The event is FREE so if you are anywhere in the area you can’t lose by going to this.
Have a good week.

Then we’ll just think he is a lazy untalented hack. hah
Yeesh, I can sympathize with this strip all too well. I shudder to think what people make of me based on Manta-Man! Well done!
BAM! First webcomic I read on Monday morning and its a winner! LOL! Love it Frank! Very, very funny…looking forward to meeting you this weekend! Have a safe trip!
You have shed a ray of sunsnhie into the forum. Thanks!
Normal people don’t realize how much we suffer for our art.
No. They sure don’t. It all looks easy till you try and do it.
That was great, Frank. You summed it up quite well. As cartoonists, we can’t let public opinion dictate how we should practice our craft. We want people to laugh and love it, but at the end of the day, the only person we have to please is ourselves.
Very true yet I still find myself editing my work for fear I’m going to come across like a complete loon or just put out really lame jokes.
Hahaha, good one! Got a good laugh
Lordy Lordy, I know that feeling. You don’t want to know how many times I went back and forth about doing this KKK storyline in my own webcomic…or how much I’m dreading people’s reactions to it.
But what they hey, we’re cartoonists! If we piss people off, all the better! Just ask Berke Breathed or Matt Groening.
That’s what is so great about your comic. Your main character is perceived at a glance as the crazy weird person but he is actually the most sane out of a lot of the people he runs into. Plus you are not afraid to push situations and comedy. I really love that.
Thank you kindly, Frank, although I’d actually say Scapula is pretty friggin’ messed up!
Haha! And people think making comics is so fun and so easy! This speaks to the way PC has knocked modern humor down a few notches. But, of course, a cartoonist can always find a way around any obstacle to get to the punchline! Lovely work!
To heck with Political correctness. People need to learn not to be so touchy. You really summed up well how our freedom of speech isn’t that free anymore. Thanks for areat cartoon that gave me a good laugh.
Thanks. You’re right. My problem is that worry too much what people will think which can really hold you back. I need to work on that.
This was my comic making method for years!
Btw, I had no idea your work was all digital. What software are you using? It all looks great.
I use Manga Studio EX. I find that their ink took does a really good job looking like real ink. I also like how it creates a smooth clean line and can also create some dirty lines to depending on the settings. It works really well for the way I draw which is each line is drawn in a single fast swipe.
As a Libertarian nut job, I’m offended by this comic!
Nah, just kidding.
thanks for share!
